What is CloudFlare?
CloudFlare protects and accelerates your website. Once CloudFlare has been enabled on your website, website traffic is routed through their intelligent global network.
The CloudFlare content distribution network automatically optimizes the delivery of the website’s web pages, so that visitors get improved web page loading times, thus reducing the time the visitor takes to load the website.
CloudFlare also blocks threats and prevents abusive bots and malicious crawlers from wasting your bandwidth and servers. All this translates into a better website speed at any time of day.
Content Delivery Network (CDN)
CloudFlare works with more than 23 Datacenters worldwide. The CloudFlare CDN automatically caches static files at geographical nodes, so that static website files are stored in the “stations” closest to your users, reducing latency times.
CloudFlare uses technology called Anycast to direct visitors to the nearest data center to improve the user experience. The result will be that in your site, on average, it will become 2x faster regardless of where your users are located. This service is provided free of charge on the VHosting servers.
Railgun ensures that the connection between the Web server and the CloudFlare CDN is always made as quickly as possible. Railgun achieves a compression ratio of 99.6% for previously “Uncacheable” website objects using techniques similar to those used in the compression of high quality videos. This translates into an average 730% increase in the performance of your website, improved speed is also an important factor for Google indexing.
Railgun accelerates the connection between our datacenter and CloudFlare’s global network so that requests that cannot be served by CloudFlare cache are still served very quickly by Railgun, software installed on our servers.
About 2/3 of the requests on sites with the CloudFlare active CDN are served directly from the cache by our data centre which is physically closer to the person who is browsing the website. Wherever your visitor is, CloudFlare will assure you that the CDN contents will always be served by the DC closest to your users.
